Who Has Better Acting Chops??

Saw "Twilight" heartthrob Robert Pattinson's new movie, "Remember Me" yesterday. Didn't quite know what to expect - though the apt support cast (Pierce Brosnan and Chris Cooper in particular), and Allen Coulter's ("Hollywood") anointment as director, indicated that it might be something less mush and more meat. And that's exactly what it was. It's Pattinson riding in Coach, as opposed to First Class (the smooth, trouble-free ride that offers a prettier, but not always stunning, view), and you know what? I think he proves his worth here. He's actually pretty bloody good. And nothing against the film adaptations of the Nicholas Sparks' novels (in fact, I've enjoyed every one of those bar "NIghts in Rodanthe", which sucked worse than a toothy hooker in a butcher's strike) but I sure as hell believed the romance at the center of this pic - between Pattinson and co-star Emilie de Ravin ("Lost") - a lot more than the slightly manipulative passionate plays of say, "The Notebook" or "Dear John", "Remember Me" just plays a lot realer. I'll review the flick down the track, but for the moment, let me just say I'm truly convinced at least one of the "Twilight" 'hunks' (that's what you gals call 'em, right?) has some legitimate acting ability.

Taylor Lautner, on the other hand, hasn't really proven himself yet. I liked the guy in "New Moon", in fact, I think he was one of the better things in the film, and I'll admit he does seem to have 'something', but cinema's former 'Sharkboy' hasn't really done enough for anyone to really warrant screaming in the streets 'Next Redford! has he? And yet, every Hollywood studio seems to be knocking down his door to get him onboard their flicks. Of course this has more to do with getting bums on seats (Hollywood knows that if they build it, they will come - Lautner's the 'it guy' at the moment) than crystal ball's recognizing head-turning performances in the future. It's actually quite amazing - but solely on his involvement in the popcornish "Twilight" pictures, Lautner has been thrown huge bucks to star in some fairly major movies (It's funny that Lautner seems to be taking the 'Blockbuster' route, whereas Pattinson seems to be following the substance-over-style indy flicks). One of those films, up until last week, was a feature film adaptation of the toy line (!) "Max Steel". The Mattel film, set up at Paramount, and produced by Joe Roth was to tell of "an orphan exposed to nano-technology becomes imbued with superhero powers".

New/Old Videos

I was YouTubing this morning when I came across this little gem from the fall. It's hilarious!! Not as funny as the Unscripted that Rob, Kristen & Stephenie Meyer did last year, but good. Enjoy!!

And, here's the funny one that I mentioned above. Notice that Rob and Kristen share Disney characters, she: Mogli; Rob: Flounder & Sebastian

Kristen At the BAFTAS

BTW, Kristen did win an award this evening in the category she was nominated in.

The Orange Rising Star Award is the only BAFTA award that’s voted for by the public: what does it feel like to have such overwhelming support here in the UK?
It feels really good. Twilight really is a phenomenon and this is a tribute to that. And at the same time, I’m so proud to be part of a generation of people that are so good, you know, it’s really incredible. It’s nice to see a good crop.

Of the other Orange Rising Star Award nominees who do you most admire?
Oh man, I really can’t go there. Jesse Eisenberg is a good friend of mine and Carey this year just blew me away. And I don’t know if you’ve seen A Prophet, but that is an incredible movie. So that’s why I feel like we should all have gone up there.

What was the red carpet atmosphere like for you tonight?
I was really surprised because I’m used to showing up at Twilight premieres and the fans are screaming the names, and that’s to be expected. But not here at the BAFTAs, you know?! So that was surreal, and cool, at the same time. You know, they (the fans) even sort of knew their place a bit more, they were a little quieter and stuff.

So what’s new for you in 2010?
I have three movies coming out this year: ‘Welcome to the Reillys’, ‘’The Runaways’ and ‘Twilight Eclipse’ . We start shooting ‘Breaking Dawn’ in November, but I don’t have a job after that. Yet!

Time for a holiday then?
Yes!

Oops

Ok, I had no idea that I had done something here on my blog that was wrong. I plead innocence over this. What is it, you ask?? Last week I posted a crop of pix from Eclipse that were floating around cyberspace. A crop of pix that were leaked out from Summit that weren't supposed to be released yet. I just found this info tonight as I was surfing around other blogs who knew this. I have taken them down and will repost them as soon as I know that they are approved by Summit Entertainment. Sorry about this. I feel guilty for having posted them now that I know.

30 More Freakin' Days!!!

Yes, Twihards & Rob fans, 30 more days til we can all get our hot little hands on a copy of The Twilight Saga: New Moon. It just seems like it was last week I waited in line for a 10:30pm showing of New Moon on the 19th of Nov. I can still hear the gasps as Jacob peels off his shirt to help Bella after she wiped out on the motorbike. They came from young girls to gay men. I saved my gasping for my beautiful Edward, as he almost reveals himself in Volterra.

If you are at all familiar with New Moon, then you know that it was on Mar 23/09 that production started and here we are, a year later getting ready to own the 2nd movie in the Saga. You can easily take a peek at what I had from last spring, when I first started blogging about my Edward. It's nice to look back on when they were filming, esp. the pix of shirtless Rob in Italy. I even have a lot of pix from Remember Me which opens in 3 wks. How time does fly.

Rob & Emilie in Vogue

Ask Robert Pattinson and Emilie de Ravin about shooting their new movie, Remember Me, and they instantly start talking about the throngs of Twilight fans and pushy paparazzi who swarmed around them as they filmed on the streets of New York.

"It was the most ridiculous experience," says Pattinson, flashing the sweet, shy smile those crowds hoped to see. "You're trying to stay in character and you're trying to walk down the street, but all those people keep reminding you that you're not this character, you're—"

"A show pony," cracks de Ravin, and the two burst into laughter.

Although this duo could hardly be more different—de Ravin, 28, boasts the easy physical confidence of a onetime ballerina, while the slouchy 23-year-old Pattinson is all self-effacing bemusement—their effortless rapport is the emotional anchor of Remember Me. Pattinson stars as Tyler Hawkins, an alienated and confused young man from a wealthy family—"It's not too Rebel Without a Cause," he jokes—who gets involved with Ally (de Ravin), the daughter of a cop who arrested him after a street fight. Where Twilight treats him as the object of desire, a role that requires as much posing as acting, this character-driven drama brings out his most emotionally complex performance so far. Whether Tyler's raging at his distant father, Charles (played by Pierce Brosnan), or charming Ally, he has a surprisingly deft comic touch; Pattinson is now the one doing the chasing.

Choices To Make

This is the 3 disc DVD from HMV

So, I'm out at the mall the other day when I happen into HMV. You can pre-order your advance copy of "New Moon" That's the easy part, that hard part: HMV is offering 3 different DVD's. For those of you who are Team Jacob, there's a 3 disc DVD for you. Prefer Team Edward?? You can get the Edward 3 disc DVD. The other DVD is the movie poster featuring all three, Edward, Bella & Jacob. So, now I have to decide which DVD to get. Probably the Team Edward & the one featuring all three. Then I'll go across the street to my Walmart and pick up another copy that they have with EXCLUSIVE footage from "Eclipse". Let's just say, on Mar 20 I'll be a busy gal getting these DVD's

Little Ashes on DVD

Well, it's new release Tuesday and while I was out shopping at my local Walmart, picking up some cat food, I happened along to the entertainment section where I was looking for something new. Lo & behold, there was "Little Ashes" staring right back at me. It was released on DVD today in North America. Being an RPattz fan, I picked it up, not knowing what to expect with it. I mean, I did know some stuff about it from other blogs & YouTube.

Now, I have seen other works by Robert in between Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire & Twilight. I can't say I enjoyed them. GASP!! Not enjoyed something Rob filmed?? Yes, I did like "Bad Mother's Handbook" where he plays adorkable Daniel Gale, but I found "Haunted Airman" boring; "How to Be"...let's just say I wanted to smack Art upside the head for being so freakin' annoying. In "Ring of the Niebelungs" he's not a major character, but he does seem to do ok (maybe except that mullet of his).

I did enjoy "Little Ashes" While he does need to work on his Spanish accent a bit more, I found it to be a beautiful movie. A lot of people will focus on the relationship between Salvador Dali & Frederico Garcia Lorca as being on the homo-erotic side. I saw it as a beautiful relationship between 2 young men finding their way together in the midst of fascist Spain while at Art School. Sure they kiss a lot & show affection, but that's not the whole point of the movie, IMO. There was an underlying story with the onslaught of the Spanish Civil War where certain behaviors would have you sent to prison, writing poetry about freedom could have you executed. It was a story of 3 friends who met at school, who went on different paths that each other influenced in some way. It's not all about it being a gay movie. But I think I may spoiled some of the movie. It was a beautiful move. And I was surprised to hear Rob drop the F-bomb a few times...you don't get that in the Twilight Saga (can you imagine?!)
